Mistakes, the foundation of your own truth

We walk our own roads and choose our own paths. No two journeys are ever the same. And when we realize that, when we find our own path, we know that we will make mistakes somewhere down the line. But it’s those mistakes, the detours that we’ve taken along the way, that take us to where we ought to be.

Some mistakes end up being beautiful, and they are what adds colour to what could be a very dull life. And if by making a mistake you only learn to not judge others so severely, what greater a lesson?

Mistakes are inevitable. They lead us, teach us, grow us. There is not as much to be learnt from success as there is from failure. Mistakes are your own foundation of truth. And although they do not have to define the rest of your life, perhaps they could define they way you live the rest of it.

“Life is under no obligation to give you what you expect.”

The general viewpoint when it comes to giving advice on having high expectations in any situation in your life is that if you expect nothing in specific you will never be disappointed. And maybe that’s one of the best pieces of advice out there.

There’s a fine line between being hopeful and pinning all your hopes on something you would like to happen. It’s not about being cynical, it’s about guarding your heart against the disappointment and sadness that follows an outcome not being able to rise to meet up to the heights that you have set in your mind. And although pain is necessary, some could be avoided.

Life then becomes a lot easier when you accept that people weren’t put on this earth to live up to your expectations and neither are you here to live up to anyone else’s. And then that lowered expectation leaves room for the surprise and joy that could come from having something good happen.

The harder you hold on to your expectations, of life and of people, you will find that they are like delicate China. With the right amount of grip on them, you can feel the beauty of the object, but if you hold it too tightly it will break and cut you.

Live in the Moment

What sucks the joy out of our everyday lives is our notion of 'how life is supposed to be.'

We tell ourselves that we'll be happier when we're richer, skinnier, more admired, more successful, more loved.

And we constantly reject the present moment and postpone our lives.

Perhaps we should stop insisting that our lives be a certain way and instead embrace it the way it is right now?

Time; Our Greatest Commodity

"Time is an equal opportunity employer.

Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day.

Rich people can't buy more hours.

Scientists can't invent new minutes.

And you can't save time to spend it on another day.

Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving.

No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow."

Inspiration?

"Inspiration is for amateurs;

The rest of us just show up and get to work...

All the best ideas come out of the process;

They come out of the work itself.

Things occur to you.

If you're sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens."

What do you think?
Agree?
Disagree?

Life of Pi

“Above all, it is important not to lose hope.”

Lifeof Pi, released this year, based on the novel by Yann Martel, tells the story of a 16-year-old boy named Piscine Molitor “Pi” Patel who suffers a shipwreck in which his family dies and is stranded in the Pacific Ocean on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Upon release, the film was widely critically acclaimed and was also nominated for three Golden Globes including Best Picture and Best Director.

The film is directed by Ang Lee – a celebrated and loved filmmaker and winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the winner of Best Director for Brokeback Mountain – and has a stellar cast including Bollywood’s Irrfan Khan known from Slumdog Billionaire and Tabu, as well as Oscar-nominated Gerard Depardieu.

The film has also been released in 3D and has even been called a “miraculous achievement of storytelling and a landmark of visual mystery” by critics and perhaps is one of the best films this year. From one of the best filmmakers of our time, the film is a celebration of life and is bound to make those who love the novel proud.

[ feelings ]

I believe that one should always follow their feelings, regardless if they are logical or not.
Embrace your feelings I always say.

It does not matter if these feelings are good or bad, just embrace them and let your heart lead the dance.
This is why it’s OK to be sad. It’s OK to cry. It’s OK to dwell on your pain. You don’t always have to cheer up for the sake of another.

Today I decide to go against this belief.

Today I endure pain for love.

Today I walk past the warning sign.

Tonight I let fear feast.

Tonight I depend on faith.
