Rémy Martin - One Life/Live Them

"You only get one life, live them."
"Why be one thing when you can be many things."

On the 30th of March, Rémy Martin hosted an event at the Oyster Box in Durban.

Rémy Martin's One Life.Live Them campaign was launched in October last year. I was fortunate to photograph their Legends event in December last year held at Moyo on the Pier.
We were then treated to a night with living music legend, Vusi Mahlasela.

Naturally I then inquired about the campaign and was very keen to be involved in their upcoming events.

The event held at the Oyster Box was geared towards the entrepreneurs and leaders. Two of the campaign ambassadors were brought in to chat about their life and experiences thus far.
The two speakers were informative and embodied the brand and the current campaign.
Mayihlome Tshwete and Ludwick Marishane both ground-breakers in the respective paths who live their different lives.

This international campaign recognizes and celebrates individuals multi-talents, by understanding that people are not defined by one talent or skill, but are multi-faceted, with many passions.
If that isn't a mantra to follow, I don't know what is!

The event went on way into the evening; with a fine-dining three course meal being paired with Rémy Martin Cognac Fine Champagne.

Best part about this campaign; YOU could be invited to the next exclusive event.
All you have to do is sign up at: www.remymartin.co.za
You get to create your own online profile and be part of the Rémy Martin world.

Eva Green – From Bond girl to kickass warrior princess

It’s not easy for an actress to break away from the Bond girl mould and achieve longevity in Hollywood. There have only been a few actresses who have had the role of James Bond’s eye-candy and have achieved the feat. But now with the incredibly successful release of “300: Rise of an Empire” over the past weekend, with Eva Green formerly best-known as Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale in 2006 of the “007” franchise, one more actress might be able to boast of this achievement.

As of the 10th of March, the latest “300” film has dominated the competition in the States, bagging an approximate $45.1 million domestically and $87.8 million from 58 other countries. This is pretty cool seeing as the film has mighty armies of blood-thirsty men being led by a dainty, albeit feisty, woman – one, Eva Green.

Eva plays the warrior queen, Atremisia, in the movie and is not only being praised by audiences for her physique and beauty but also by critics for her performance and screen presence. She is perhaps the best thing about the movie.

Eva, who is 33 years old, was born in Paris to an actress mother and a dentist father. She also has a non-identical twin sister, Joy, who was born minutes after her. Eva found acting as a passion as a teenager and went on to graduate from the American University of Paris and then to further study Drama in Paris and London. Much more than in Hollywood, she is an accomplished actress in France.

But now that we have had a taste of Eva in leather in sword-fighting mode, we know we’re going to love her in her next release, the also highly-anticipated "Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For". The movie also stars Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, and Jessica Alba. With a cast like this, and with Eva playing a temptress who enlists Josh Brolin’s character in an attempt to escape her ex-husband, “Sin City 2” is definitely going to be another movie worth waiting for this year. Eva Green is the new ultimate femme-fatale.

“Oppressed Majority” – Imagined female dominance goes viral

Can you picture a world where women run around topless, urinate in the street, whistle at and check out men, and men are left in charge of child minding? Not so easy to, is it? Which is why French actress, director and screenwriter Eleonoré Pourriat has made a short film entitled "Majorité Opprimée", or "Oppressed Majority", depicting just this setting. And the film is not only hilarious and candid, but thought-provoking and nerve-hitting.

The film, in French with English subtitles, follows an ordinary man, Pierre, through a day of sexist experiences. The switched angle to women objectifying men really hits home in realizing the everyday taunting women go through. The male protagonist takes his child to day-care and then on his way to work is leered at, subjected to cat calls, and even sexually assaulted by a group of women. The film is a complete eye-opener that will most definitely leave you feeling reflective.

The video was recorded in 2010 but uploaded to YouTube on 5th February this year. Since then it has gone viral with more than 5 million views. It’s being spread around the Net almost as a form of activism with women saying “Yes, this is what we go through!” Without painting females as victims, the film manages to portray sexism by not showing the issue how it is but by forcing men to look at their behaviour in a different – but perhaps not completely original – light.

Pourriat got the idea to make “Majorité Opprimée” when her husband was shocked to hear that she got yelled at in the street. The film’s exaggeration is also a tool in achieving the reaction that Pourriat was aiming for. But she was still shocked with the response she got for the film, having not expected it at all.

In light of the short film’s subject matter, it’s amazing that it has gone viral in such a short amount of time; most feminist films are overlooked and would probably never be discussed as luridly as this one. It’s certainly not a perfect or even brilliant piece of work, but it gets the message across.

Bérénice Marlohe for Omega

It wouldn’t be the first time that clinching the role as a Bond girl has set an actress’s career into top gear. And it’s no different with Skyfall’s Bérénice Marlohe.

She's been busy promoting the latest 007 movie over the last few weeks, even making an appearance in Cape Town, and posing to perfection on red carpets across the world. And now she is using her looks - and time keeping skills - to promote a new product. The French actress has become the brand ambassador for Omega watches.

All the attention the 33-year-old of Chinese, Cambodian, and French descent was getting, prompted Omega to choose her as their latest ambassador. And from the chic, elegant, and crisp images; she is sure to have many more campaign offers streaming in.
