Sholene Ramdass : Project Exposure Q&A

1.How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
If I did not know how old I am, I would think that I am 18 years old. This is actually how old I am now, but I have always thought that 18 is the perfect age to be. Everything is new and unexplored, and youth is at its best. All the confusion and the complication that comes with being 18 is just a part of the beautiful experience. So I would think that I am 18 years old because I see life and the world with the eyes of a girl who still wants to know things, do things, and experience things.

2.If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
If happiness was the national currency, the work that would make me rich is travelling. To travel is to see all the grandeur that God has created and entrusted to us. Travelling makes me unexplainably happy and joyful. To see something beautiful; whether mountains or the ocean or to drive a road in the middle of nowhere that is deserted, gives joy to my soul. Isabelle Archer said in the novel "Portrait of a Lady", "A swift carriage, of a dark night, rattling with four horses over roads one can't see - that's my idea of happiness." I couldn't have said it better!

3.If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?

"Seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." - Matthew 6:33

4.What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
I know that I do life differently than most people. Most of us have been blessed with the gift of sight, but not all of us truly see. I believe that I see the beauty in all things, the most mundane or the most magnificent; this ability has given me the joy of living life in another dimension. I savour every moment, every feeling, every conversation; because I appreciate how beautiful and amazing this life that God has blessed us with is.

5.What are you most grateful for?
I am most grateful for life. Even in all its imperfections, it is stunningly wonderful.

6.Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
For all the physical attractiveness and fame in the world, I wouldn't reduce my life expectancy. There will always be someone more beautiful than you in some way or the other and the world will grow tired of you and your fame can fade, but true happiness is more meaningful than these superficial things.
7.What do you do in life?
I am currently a student at the University of South Africa studying for a BA Degree in Languages, Literature, and Creative Writing. I have many dreams for my life and by the grace of God I will be able to achieve them. One of them is to be a published writer and this will hopefully happen soon.

8.What did you enjoy most about your Top 10 shoot?
I enjoyed the early morning of my shoot on Umhlanga beach. It was such an incredibly beautiful day! I loved how relaxed and easy the shoot was and how at ease Lee Folkard made me feel. It was one of the best shoots I have been involved in because of this. It didn't feel like I was competing against others, it felt as if I was just having fun and getting to explore what I could do with the theme.

9.Which is your favourite part of the winning prize?
My favourite part of the winning prize is is the concept photoshoot by Lee Folkard as I have enjoyed the mini-shoot so much I know that this shoot would be amazing. Even though it would be hard work, I think it would be amazing. But the prizes are also quite amazing. It is such a great opportunity to be a part of Project Exposure!

10.Why should you win Project Exposure?

I think I should win Project Exposure because I believe that what the judges are looking for is someone who is natural and at ease in front of the camera but also someone who realizes the importance of understanding a bit of photography and what looks best on camera, of working well with others expecially the photographer himself and others involved in the shoot, of punctuality, and of being able to be a Jack of all trades - i.e. being able to do your own hair and makeup well and choosing an appropriate attractive outfit; all of which I think I embody. I think that I also have an X-factor quality, something that just makes me different and makes people want to connect with me and this comes across in my pictures. But above all, I think that my sincerity and humility also come across in my pictures and that is a very important quality.

Charne' Leafe' : Project Exposure Q&A

1.How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
I'd be 40 years old because they say that life begins at 40!By this time you've already accomplished most milestones in your life and whatever comes after that is always a added bonus!

2.If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Being able to help the poor and the less fortunate, giving back always makes one grateful for what they have. You can feed 10 people with one plate of food but you cant feed one person with 10 plates of food!

3.If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?

Innocence. Dont rush being a child, you only have one childhood!

4.What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
My poise and my humility!
5.What are you most grateful for?
Im most grateful for my life, the opportunities i've been given.,the lessons i've learnt, the advise i have to take and my family and friends!

6.Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
No! "beauty fades"

7.What do you do in life?
Undergraduate student studying a Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Psychology and Business Management!

8.What did you enjoy most about your Top 10 shoot?
Being able to be myself and i was most comfortable with the photographer!

9.Which is your favourite part of the winning prize?
Representing the different brands, the exposure that i will receive and the insight i will give to people who dont know much about the designers, photography etc!

10.Why should you win Project Exposure?

I should win the competition because when i do something i put my all into it and try to do it perfectly the first time round.Simplicity is my forte but im always willing to go the extra mile.As a model, great exposure is always necessary and this is one way of getting that!Being able to be dressed by the designers will give them a platform and allow oblivious people who dont know who and what they are through me.Im a lady who has a vision,i try to have reason in the things i do.A lady with a plan and with every plan a purpose!

Janay Manning : Project Exposure Q&A

1.How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
This question reminds me of 'Midnight in Paris'. I would be exactly the same, the actual number is purely for administrative purposes.

2.If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
The work I do now. I get to make more than 60 people happy everyday and I feel like a million dollars!

3.If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?

Be patient.

4.What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
My hair!

5.What are you most grateful for?
My life and the people in it who love and accept me for being a loon.

6.Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
No!

7.What do you do in life?
In life I get to make everyone happy from the moment I wake up until I go to bed. It's magic.

8.What did you enjoy most about your Top 10 shoot?
Being myself, being creative, everyone getting dirty and enjoying Lee complain about having to do manual labour It was also my first time having someone else take pictures of me and it was so easy not to feel like a weirdo seducing the lense with rock star awesomeness!

9.Which is your favourite part of the winning prize?
Umm the whole prize!

10.Why should you win Project Exposure?

I am different. In look, style and attitude and that's exactly why I entered. Durban has this semi-blinded view that girls need to look a certain way to be beautiful, I want to turn that opinion on its head! You can be yourself and by loving it others will follow suit. Confidence is the Kublai Khan!!! We have scores of talented designers with looks that belong on an international level and it's time models step up to the plate, dare to be different, sell designs and push the envelope - the whole world is! I should win because the judges have all said they're looking for someone unique, hi my name Janay Manning, it's a pleasure to meet you.

Natalie Buitendach : Project Exposure Q&A

1.How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
21, i think that 21 is the perfect age to be in life, its the age of full responsibility and adult hood, its where your life begins, some people feel that responsibility isn't for them but i see it differently.

Interior design/decorating, i absolutely love designing and decorating a house and making it a home, or a lunch table with a few girlfriends over.

3.If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?

Live life with no regrets

4.What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
The way i dress, most people have a certain style and they stick to it, then theres me, i can wear my hair blonde red or brunette and people still say wow your hair style/color suits you,
one day im miss sporty and the next very elegant and chic, i love being around people and showing that i can be who i want to be, once again living life with no regrets.

In life i strive to do my best in everything i do,, what i do in life is setting goals and reaching them no matter what gets me down, because you have to be down to get up again...

8.What did you enjoy most about your Top 10 shoot?
Having a photographer just be the camera, that was the best part, posing and having fun with the sound of the camera klicking away.

9.Which is your favourite part of the winning prize?
The birthday party being covered by lee folkard,, my idea of making memories is by taking pictures,, i take a picture everyday of my life of my family my loved one or my animals,, and so by lee taking photographs of my birthday party would mean making more memories.

10.Why should you win Project Exposure?

Project exposure is not just a competition to me, its an opportunity for me to experience more things in life and also to see who is out there and the different looks all of us can produce,, we chose our own themes that meant something significant to us and so we interrupted it to our characters, i have produced many different looks with different photographers and they are all so different, i am able to produce a different look every time, the task given to us by lee folkard was that he was only going to BE THE CAMERA,, and not in any way help us with the shoot, that way we were able to show off our skills and whether we interpreted the theme or weren't able to, and thats why i think i should win project exposure.
