Break bread with KZN's beloved Born 'n Bread BB Bakeries

The #SomeBunnyToLove food truck by BB Bakeries is back with more flavour and fun in 2019
BB Bakeries #SomeBunnyToLove food truck is back this July to celebrate all things Born 'n Bread in KZN - just like the quality local bread - and this year they ain't loafing around.

Following its 2018 fame, the colourful and flavourful food truck and BB team, have upped their game with new additions to the menu, and a keen focus on supporting local artists and businesses.  There are plenty of plans to celebrate and have fun with locals this Winter!

When it comes to the menu, the  BB Bakeries team will be serving up 'BB Bunny Chow Classics' - a KZN favourite in Mutton, Chicken or Bean, and   a side of Cheesy BB Bread Sticks.

Those wanting a smaller portion of the good stuff,  can opt for  the 'BB Squares Rising Star' - a curry filled, deep fried BB Squares snack. And for those with a sweet tooth, the 'BB Squares Encore' is just for you; a dessert filled deep fried BB Square served with whipped cream and butterscotch sauce, with the option of a raisin and cinnamon, or baked apple and cinnamon filling.

The BB Bakeries team is supported by the award-winning Bunny Chow masters from the BP Waterloo who will be crafting the daily freshly-made curries that they are so loved for.

Staying true to its well-established heritage, BB Bakeries is all about supporting what's local and loved in KZN.

When it comes to entertainment this year, the BB Bakeries team is focused on giving local performers - new and established - a stage on which to shine. Not only does the truck still don its built in Curryoke fun to let KZNers show off their skills but the team has partnered up with local music talent to keep fans entertained along its route this July. The likes of Easy Freak, Holly Rey, Robin Third Floor and more will be performing with the truck while the team serves up delicious treats.

"At BB Bakeries we believe that a meal is nothing without family-fun connections and entertainment. As a local brand we value celebrating the quality, local talent and businesses that KZN has to offer," explains BB Bakeries Senior Brand Manager, Trisha Chetty.

BB Bakeries is so fond of local artists that they have created the BB Bakeries Born 'n Bread Local Hunt for up and coming performers. One lucky KZN muso who wants to launch their live act, stands to win R5000 in cash and the chance to perform at the Suncoast Sunday Beats Event on 28 July. Visit the BB Bakeries social pages for information on how to enter.

Adding to the food and entertainment flavour, the truck itself is quite a bold sight, making it easy to spot and intriguing to visit. Sing your heart out in the Curryoke video booth, or and take a pic inside the ultimate Bunny-Booth, which is literally a giant half loaf photo booth. Snap a picture of you and your Bunny and share on Instagram by following and tagging @BunnyChowLove, or on Facebook @BBBakeries using

The ultimate foodie experience: Come Wine With Us

More than simply a wine and food loving community that is informal, fun and unpretentious, Come Wine With Us is the ‘ultimate foodie experience’. It brings together wine estates, restaurants and patrons, with a shared passion for good food and wine – and those who love ‘the finer things in life’. Founded in 2012 by Sybil Doms, with her extensive background in food and wine, the company comes from humble beginnings. Five years ago, with Sybil having given up her freelance work, yet despising the permanent retail position she’d taken, she was desperate to get back into food and wine.

At the time, Sybil’s aunt asked for her advice. She sent Sybil six bottles of wine and asked for her ideas on what canapés she could serve with the wines. Sybil worked out the menu, invited some foodie friends around, they loved it… and Come Wine With Us was born. “This year, we have events in March in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and in May in Durban and Pretoria, plus more events throughout the year,” says Sybil.

The success of the business speaks for itself: it is a brilliant networking opportunity, with people who all share the same passion. “Many people religiously come to our events and today, the business is snowballing; people feel proud to associate with our brand, but mostly love to feel part of this passionate foodie community,” she says. Given the success – including a partnership with Zomato this year − Sybil has big plans for the company. In the near future, she would “like to align with other alcohol brands such as whiskey, vodca and brandy”.

Going forward, Sybil’s aim is to make CWWU a ‘Proudly South African community’ – and take it overseas. “South African wines definitely don’t have enough exposure overseas; our local wines are fighting for shelf space, as Italian, French and Spanish wines dominate the overseas market. I want to create an emotional experience for overseas wine lovers to fall in love with South African wine and ultimately, to explore the South African wine regions and boost local tourism,” she says. “It’s interesting to note that the overseas market – particularly wine brands in Napa Valley – have been (virtually) watching our events very closely and doing similar things overseas. Concludes Sybil: “I am flattered that they are taking inspiration from our events. We must be doing something right!”

“The question I ask myself like almost every day is, ‘Am I doing the most important thing I could be doing?’… Unless I feel like I’m working on the most important problem that I can help with, then I’m not going to feel good about how I’m spending my time. And that’s what this company is.”

“I always did something that I was a little not ready to do. I think that, that is how you grow. When there’s a moment of ‘Wow, I’m not so sure that I can do this, and you push through those moments, it’s then that you have a breakthrough. Sometimes that’s a sign that something really great is about to happen. You’re about to grow and learn a lot more about yourself.”

Almond Breeze Almond Milk

What's everyone going nuts about?

Almond milk is one of an ever-growing line of non-dairy alternatives to traditional cow’s milk.
There are a few varieties and brands of almond milk making their way into South Africa.
I have sampled the Almond Breeze brand.
Almond Breeze Almond Milk is available in three variants at the moment in South Africa; Original, Unsweetened and the Barista Blend.
It is available at: Pick n Pay, Checkers, Spar, Food Lover's Market, Dis-Chem and Wellness Warehouse.

I'm not one to add sugar to things I consume so, Almond Breeze Original was a little too sweet for my liking. I would imagine that this would probably be your best bet if you're wanting to make the switch from dairy milk to almond milk. The Original Almond Breeze Milk is sweet and tasty.
Having said that, I really enjoyed the Unsweetened Almond Breeze!
I used it in cooking, baking, cereals and smoothies. It has a neutral clean taste, with a slight but not overpowering sweetness. You can clearly get a taste of that almond goodness within.

The only thing that I added my almond milk into that I didn't enjoy was my coffee.  I  couldn't get the milk to froth well. Cue the introduction of The Barista Blend from Almond Breeze. A variant of Almond Milk specifically made for coffee making! How awesome! The Barista Blend was made to compliment the finest coffees in the world and provide the correct consistency to froth for visual presentation.

Almond Breeze is vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, peanut-free and are soy-free.

Overall, I would highly recommend trying the products and finding which would suit your needs most. I will definitely continue using the unsweetened Almond Breeze Almond Milk and am really keen to try out the Barista Blend!

It's a great healthy alternative to dairy milk and leaves you feeling healthier... and I think, we all want to feel healthier.

Rémy Martin - One Life/Live Them

"You only get one life, live them."
"Why be one thing when you can be many things."

On the 30th of March, Rémy Martin hosted an event at the Oyster Box in Durban.

Rémy Martin's One Life.Live Them campaign was launched in October last year. I was fortunate to photograph their Legends event in December last year held at Moyo on the Pier.
We were then treated to a night with living music legend, Vusi Mahlasela.

Naturally I then inquired about the campaign and was very keen to be involved in their upcoming events.

The event held at the Oyster Box was geared towards the entrepreneurs and leaders. Two of the campaign ambassadors were brought in to chat about their life and experiences thus far.
The two speakers were informative and embodied the brand and the current campaign.
Mayihlome Tshwete and Ludwick Marishane both ground-breakers in the respective paths who live their different lives.

Ludwick Marishane

Mayihlome Tshwete

This international campaign recognizes and celebrates individuals multi-talents, by understanding that people are not defined by one talent or skill, but are multi-faceted, with many passions.
If that isn't a mantra to follow, I don't know what is!

The event went on way into the evening; with a fine-dining three course meal being paired with Rémy Martin Cognac Fine Champagne.

Best part about this campaign; YOU could be invited to the next exclusive event.
All you have to do is sign up at: www.remymartin.co.za
You get to create your own online profile and be part of the Rémy Martin world.

Review: Kevin.Murphy's Stimulate-Me.Wash & Rinse range

Kevin.Murphy; the brand uses the tagline; "Skincare for Your hair"

Born from the same philosophy as skincare, KEVIN.MURPHY products are WEIGHTLESSLY designed to deliver PERFORMANCE, STRENGTH and LONGEVITY.

I received the Stimulate-Me Wash & Rinse at the end of last year and I've been testing this shampoo and conditioner combo for the last two months to enable me to properly review it.
This is the first men's range to join the Kevin.Murphy line.

STIMULATE-ME.WASH IS A STIMULATING AND REFRESHING SHAMPOO FOR YOUR HAIR AND SCALP. CAMPHOR CRYSTALS STIMULATES CIRCULATION TO THE SCALP AND HELPS RESTORE A NATURAL SHINE AND STRENGTH TO THE HAIR. THE COMBINATION OF BERGAMOT MINT & BLACK PEPPER WORK AS STIMULATING INGREDIENTS FOR ADDED CIRCULATION AND CELLULAR STRENGTH.

STIMULATE-ME.RINSE SOOTHES AND COOLS THE HAIR AND SCALP. IT CONTAINS WHEAT AMINO ACIDS THAT PROMOTE HAIR GROWTH AND CELLULAR REGENERATION, AND SHEA BUTTER, WHICH ABSORBS QUICKLY AND COMPLETELY INTO THE HAIR AND SCALP TO RE-HYDRATE WITHOUT CLOGGING THE PORES.

My CONCLUSION:
After using both products for the last two months; my hair growth has increased and the hair is noticeably stronger! I already have thick hair - which is one of the benefits of this range - so I suppose this would help me in retaining this. The scent of the products is masculine but fresh; soothing and cooling. When I get out the shower after using the products, I feel alive and ready to take on the day ahead. Not a bad way to start your morning - thanks Kevin.Murphy!

STIMULATE-ME WASH & RINSE USES A COMBINATION OF INGREDIENTS TO AWAKEN AND CLARIFY THE HAIR AND SCALP, PREPARING IT TO RECEIVE THE HAIR THICKENING AND THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS OF THICK.AGAIN.
More about Thick.Again in an upcoming review.

The Kevin.Murphy range is unique, cutting edge and modern.
In their ingredients (all KEVIN.MURPHY hair products are sulphate free, paraben free and cruelty free.) as well as in their design;
the packaging is eye-catching, recyclable and biodegradable. I display my products proudly in my bathroom.

Stocked at all major salons in South Africa. I get my Kevin.Murphy fix from Gerald Wells Salon in Durban. Gerald Wells Splush stores, located throughout South Africa also stock the full range.
